(aka: Managing T1D While Being a Whole Human Person)

When your kid has Type 1 Diabetes, you become a walking, talking emergency kit.

You pack the diabetes bag.
You double-check the supplies.
You mentally run through 14 “what-if” scenarios.

And then you leave the house… without your own phone.
Or wallet.
Or sanity.

The Invisible Load No One Sees

There’s the actual stuff—the insulin, the meters, the snacks, the backup snacks, the backup to the backup snacks.
But then there’s the mental checklist you’re constantly cycling through:

  • When’s the next sensor change?
  • Did I reorder strips?
  • Are we almost out of juice boxes?
  • Has she eaten enough to dose now, or should I wait?

You’re managing a complex medical condition on top of life.
And sometimes, that means you forget little things—like lunch. Or shoes.

Multitasking, But Make It Medical

You know that scene in action movies where someone is diffusing a bomb while being yelled at through an earpiece?

Yeah. That’s snack time now.

T1D Doesn’t Pause for Real Life

Work meeting? Blood sugar low.
Finally sitting down with your coffee? Pump alarm.
Running to the store real quick? Better bring the whole medical kit just in case.

And let’s not forget: you’re also expected to be calm, informed, emotionally available, and well-rested.
LOL.

And Yet…

You still show up.
You still remember the important things (even if you forget where you parked).
You still advocate, dose, calculate, and comfort.
And somehow, you make it all work.

You might feel like a hot mess.
But from where I’m standing?
You’re a superhero—with fruit snacks in every pocket.
